Artificial intelligence is transforming social work practice, research, and education. This keynote examines both the opportunities and ethical challenges of AI and discusses how human-AI collaboration can strengthen service quality while preserving social work’s core values.

Abstract:
This presentation explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping social work practice, research, and education, and examines the opportunities and challenges that AI brings to the helping professions. It begins with an overview of machine learning and generative AI, highlighting their growing applications in administrative tasks, risk assessment, research and data analysis, professional training, and direct service delivery. The presentation also addresses key concerns related to privacy, algorithmic bias, professional judgment, and ethical responsibility. Finally, it reflects on the evolving role of social workers in an era of human-AI collaboration and discusses how AI can be leveraged to enhance service quality while preserving the profession’s core values of human relationships, ethical practice, and social justice.

Biography

Dr. Hsi-sheng Wei is a professor of social work at National Taipei University. His research interests include school bullying, adolescent mental health, youth trauma, program evaluation, and the social implications of artificial intelligence. His recent work explores the use of large language models in crisis intervention, as well as issues of AI ethics, bias, and fairness. He previously served as Dean of Research and Development, Chair of the Department of Social Work, and Director of the Student Counseling Center at National Taipei University.

Title:
Document Verification in the AI Era: The Battle Against Presentation Attacks

Abstract:
In the artificial intelligence era, automated document verification is essential for global banking, border security, and digital eKYC systems. However, generative fraud and realistic spoofing techniques create new challenges. Traditional systems can be easily tricked by advanced print, screen-replay, and composite document attacks. Although current deep learning methods have reached impressive levels in controlled settings, they usually perform poorly in real-world, cross-domain situations. These models tend to fit too closely to local environmental details, camera differences, and specific lighting rather than focusing on universal security features. This keynote will present an overview of recent advances in document security, focusing on the challenges and developments in Identity Document Presentation Attack Detection (ID-PAD), and presenting the innovative solutions developed by our research group, which is a unified dual-stream topology evaluated on the IJCB 2026 benchmark. Our framework integrates a Low-Rank Adapted (LoRA) Swin Transformer V2, which captures hierarchical spatial representations, with a parallel Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) branch dedicated to texture and frequency-domain analysis. The experiments show that SwinDCT-PAD significantly reduces detection errors and delivers strong generalization to unseen document formats and presentation attacks, advancing the state of the art in secure remote identity verification.

Biography

Dr. Quoc Bao Dang is a lecturer and researcher at Dong Thap University, Vietnam. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from La Rochelle University, France. His research interests include machine learning, computer vision, document intelligence, document image retrieval, digital watermarking, and identity document verification. His recent work focuses on AI-based document security, presentation attack detection, and secure digital identity verification.
